Y is for Yarn

Y is for Yarn

Thanks to Nana - we had lots of yarn to play with for the week of 11/1 - 11/4

I decided to go with COHS - Yy is for Yarn
 - Most of the printables came from Erica.

I made a Sensory Bin to go with this - check it out here Yarn Sensory Bin

Morning Time With the Boys:

Making the letter Yy with white play-doh. White is the color of the week.
I got the play-doh mats from Home School Creations

Well - again I did not have a White Do-A-Dot, so we used white paint and finger.
J.B. could really care less for getting his fingers messy
Curious loved this!!! - Yes I was cleaning up white paint for a while.

J.B. working on pompom magnets. - The Y is for page came from Home School Creations

Well Curious was engaged for oh about 1 min. - Then he remembered the hole in the table and started
putting the pompoms down the hole. - Let's say it took him a while to clean up. (LOL)

One To One with Jumping Bean:

Working on the Yy page for our letter book. The letter book comes from Home School Creations
As Jumping Bean glues them on we talk about the pic and what Yy says.

J.B. stringing his lacing card - a ball of yellow yarn.

Putting the Yy is for Yarn puzzle together.

A less than thrilled J.B. working on his letter Y handwriting. (LOL)
We all have to do things we do not want to or care for at times.

J.B. was doing his cutting practice and thought the zig zag looked like it should be a crown. - So we made it into a crown for the King of the Jumping Beans. - Good idea J.B.

His most fav activity!!! It amazes me how he can not, or just chooses not to color in the lines - give this boy some paint and he can paint in the lines. - Great JOB!!

J.B. counting yarn - I cut small pieces of yarn for J.B. to count - so each number has that many pieces of yarn. 1:1 2:2 and so on.

This is vocab card time. - J.B. flips over a card and we say Yy says "y,y" Yellow
we say the sound and word for each card. - He was glad to done.

Sizing yarn. - J.B. is getting better at this each time.

This is a letter search. J.B. has to find all the letter Yy. Usually I would have him use a crayon, or a marker. But since our color was white I gave him some Thanksgiving stickers instead. This was a fun change for him.

We are sure enjoying our pocket chart. - J.B. can choose to do the activity at the table, lap tray or pocket chart. When ever we are done we put the activity in the pocket chart. I'm hoping it helps introduce the concepts and ideas to Curious, who at this stage just pulls them out and shows them to me, or some how end up on the floor. (oh well what can you do?)

Capital Y and Lowercase y sort.

Our first attempt at graphing. - I did not have all the colors for dry-erase markers so I just used the clothes pins. - Well it started to hurt his hand so we skipped most of the pages and did the last. I just saw on Erica's blog they also used buttons. - I really like that idea!!

Working on patterns - in the past I have printed this on magnet paper - he was bummed they were not magnets. - Maybe next time.

Yarn Shape match. Each yarn has a shape and J.B. had to match up the colors to make the shape.
As he made the matches we talked about each shape.

J.B. making the letter Yy with yes yarn!

Raising Rock Stars Time:

Here is how RRS - Letter Y looked like for us this week.
- It was a little cold (-25*) to go get poster board so I used white printer paper instead.
It might be a little busy!
Letter: Yy
Number: 9
Word: you
Color: White
Verse: John 15:14

The boys coloring their verses. We talked about how God calls us friend when we listen with our ears and obey with our hearts.

Writing the letter Yy in our verse. - I gave him a white crayon. He did not like it because he could not see it.

Coloring the bible craft - and talking about where we can find all of God's commands
for every part of our lives!

It's hard to see white on white - but J.B. is learning other Yy words from the bible. Like Your: Teach e your ways oh Lord!

Cut -n- tape his verse together and seeing how long it is compared to his hight.
